Abstract. The competency-based approach (CBA) to primary education represents one of the most significant paradigm shifts in twenty-first-century pedagogy. Rather than organizing schooling around the transmission of factual content, CBA structures learning around the development of transferable skills, deep understanding, and real-world application. This article examines the core advantages of implementing CBA in primary education, drawing on international comparative data, cognitive science research, and documented outcomes from countries that have successfully adopted competency frameworks. Evidence consistently demonstrates that CBA improves student engagement, deepens learning retention, promotes equity, and better prepares children for the demands of modern citizenship and employment. The article also addresses implementation challenges and provides practical recommendations for educators, school leaders, and policymakers.
