Abstract

The balance between fluency and accuracy in English language teaching (ELT) has been widely debated in second language acquisition (SLA). Fluency refers to a learner's ability to communicate with ease, while accuracy focuses on correct language use in terms of grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Historically, ELT methodologies have oscillated between fluency-centered communicative approaches and accuracy-driven structural methods. However, research suggests that integrating both fluency and accuracy leads to a more effective learning process. This paper critically examines the interplay between these two components and proposes pedagogical strategies to balance them within an integrated English teaching framework. By reviewing theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and classroom applications, the study provides insights into how teachers can develop learners' communicative competence while ensuring linguistic precision. The findings emphasize the necessity of flexible, task-based, and scaffolded teaching methods to optimize language learning outcomes.
