Abstract

This study explores the pivotal role of the translator in preserving and effectively conveying the essential science fiction elements of H.G. Wells’ novel The Island of Doctor Moreau in its translated versions. By analyzing selected excerpts from the original English text and comparing them to translations in a chosen target language, the research focuses on how narrative tone, speculative vocabulary, and philosophical themes—core components of science fiction—are maintained, adapted, or lost in translation. The paper evaluates the translator’s linguistic choices, cultural mediation, and stylistic strategies that contribute to the faithful rendering of Wells’ speculative vision.
