Abstract

Food has increasingly become a matter of geopolitics.  A growing and increasingly affluent world population, increasing use of biofuels, and slowing agricultural productivity growth have led to a tightening of the global food market.  In these market conditions, crop failures and policy measures contribute to higher food prices and price volatility.  Today's global food security challenge is different from that of the past.
