Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition is a basement of language learning, yet traditional methods often fail to provide the engagement and contextual richness needed for meaningful learning. This study explores the impact of subtitled movies as an innovative tool for enhancing vocabulary acquisition among English learners. Drawing on survey responses from high school students, university students, and educators, the research highlights the effectiveness of subtitles in fostering comprehension, retention, and contextual understanding of new words. The findings reveal a strong preference for English subtitles, significant acquisition of conversational and idiomatic expressions, and the motivational appeal of using subtitled movies in language learning. This study reveals the value of integrating subtitled content into educational practices, offering evidence-based recommendations for leveraging multimedia to enhance vocabulary development.
