Abstract

Phonetic expressiveness is a powerful linguistic feature that contributes significantly to both the emotional and semantic dimensions of communication. In both literary and everyday language, the sounds of words—independent of their definitions—can influence mood, meaning, and style. This study explores the impact of phonetic devices such as alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia, stress, intonation, pitch, and rhythm in English and Uzbek, revealing how these elements shape tone, imagery, emotional effect, and listener perception. The comparative approach provides a cross-cultural perspective, demonstrating the universality of phonetic expression while also identifying unique features in each language. The paper also considers the psychological effects of sound and its role in human cognition, suggesting that phonetic expressiveness is not merely stylistic but foundational to effective and emotive communication.
