Abstract

This article examines the challenges involved in translating culture-specific terms between English and Uzbek. Culture-specific items (CSIs) reflect national traditions, social values, historical experiences, and worldview, making them particularly difficult to transfer accurately across languages. The study analyzes linguistic, semantic, pragmatic, and cultural barriers encountered in translation processes. Drawing on established theories in translation studies and intercultural communication, the article explores common strategies used to render culture-bound terms and evaluates their effectiveness in English–Uzbek translation. The findings highlight the importance of cultural competence and contextual awareness in achieving adequate and equivalent translation.
